If McCourty doesn’t make the roster, the Pats aren’t out much.
Youth Donnie Jones Jersey
It’s a very reasonable bet for the team.

I’m not sure why McCourty is less likely to be an effective cornerback than Mitchell, who was benched repeatedly by the Chiefs last season.

But the Browns will pay a premium for the privilege of finding out.

DL Dontari Poe, Panthers Grade: C Poe famously turned down a multiyear deal from the Chiefs and hit free agency last year, only to find a weak market for his services.

Poe settled for a one-year deal with the Falcons in the hopes of rebuilding his value, and it worked.

The Jets invested heavily in the secondary a year ago by drafting Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, but the cornerback position still needed work. It’s suddenly in a much better place with Johnson added to the fold.

There aren’t many, other than potential over-payment given the past two years of the franchise tag and Johnson’s potential expectations. He’s young enough to be worth a big deal, though. Since he became a full-time starter in 2014, he has dealt with a few injuries, playing in just nine games in 2014, and missing two games in both 2015 and 2016.

Youth Russell Martin Jersey Last season, though, Johnson played in all 16 regular-season games, and there is no reason to expect he’ll do anything but that in 2018 as well.

The veteran signed a one-year, $10 million deal with New York, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. This pushes him one year closer to joining Tom Brady as the league’s only passers to see their fifth decades while calling plays. McCown had a bounceback season at age 38 to prove he’s still capable of leading an NFL team, guiding New York to an overachieving 5-8 record before succumbing to injury and completing more than 67 percent of his passes.

At two years and $19 million, the Rams aren’t paying an exorbitant amount for Talib at his current level of play, since the going rate for solid 1A cornerbacks in free agency these days is $10 million per season. If Les Snead restructures Talib’s deal and adds guaranteed money after this season, I would be a little concerned, but this is a logical acquisition for the Rams. Throw in the low-cost addition of cornerback Sam Shields, who sat out in 2017 as he recovered from a concussion, and the Rams probably have the best set of corners in the game.

Watching the Los Angeles defense is going to be fun next year. Peters and Talib are absolute ball hawks who fool quarterbacks into throws they regret from the moment the ball leaves their hand, but they also take risks and get beat Authentic Dragan Bender Jersey by double-moves more than most cornerbacks of their ilk. It will be on franchised free safety Lamarcus Joyner to clean up when his cornerbacks get beat, and on the Aaron Donald-led pass rush to get home quickly and allow L.A.’s two star cornerbacks to break on the football.

Shead’s free-agent status had been in question after he spent all but two games of the past season on the physically unable to perform list while working his way back from a torn ACL. Per the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, that would technically require Shead’s contract to toll, or to roll over to 2018 on the same terms.

For Keenum, he will now face a pile of expectations in a quarterback-crazed region that saw its team win a Super Bowl just two seasons ago.

Keenum’s teams are 20-18 in his games as a starter and he made both of his career playoff starts this past January for the Vikings.

The Broncos haven’t made the playoffs since their Super Bowl win to close out the 2015 season. Their inconsistent play on both the offensive line and at quarterback have been big reasons why they’ve sat out the postseason.

Authentic Youth Lawrence Timmons Jersey McShay didn’t give any particular reasoning for the selection other than (understandably) praising Goedert for his skills.

It isn’t a terrific tight end group this year, he wrote. But Goedert is the best one in this class. He’s still a little underrated and didn’t get a chance to shine at the Senior Bowl or combine because of injury. His pro day Authentic Peter Forsberg Jersey will be important. You don’t get too many two-way TEs coming out of college, but Goedert fits the bill. He’s got a big frame (6-4, 260) with good speed and can play in-line or detached.

Also helping Phillips is Stanford’s brand of intellectual brutality. It’s a term coined by current Cardinal head coach David Shaw, and a mentality Phillips hopes to bring to the NFL.

That’s actually how I play, Phillips said. I’m very intellectual and anticipate plays. Then when it comes down to it, I want to be violent and brutal.

How does he do it? Some of his success is simple to explain: Adams is a mammoth of a human being. Standing at 7-feet and weighing in at a solid 255-pounds, he is one of the more imposing centers in the league today. (Jimmy Butler, an extremely strong dude himself, said he thought his life was over after Adams hit him with a screen during a game this season.) It gives Adams the tools to be a one-man wrecking crew on the offensive glass because he can outmuscle just about anyone standing in his way.

I don’t think one man can stop [Adams] in the paint, Anthony told Katz. When he’s being aggressive and he’s going to the offensive glass, if it’s him versus you, you’re going to lose that battle every single time. It forces teams to bring two, three guys in the paint to try and keep him off the boards.

Don’t forget what happened to Monty Williams, said one NBA executive.

Wild forward Luke Kunin out for rest of season with ACL tear

Minnesota Wild rookie forward Luke Kunin is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

The Wild announced Monday that Kunin suffered the tear during Sunday’s 4-1 win at Detroit. He is expected to have surgery in the coming weeks and return to play in about seven months.

Adebayo won’t likely sustain those numbers as he gets more minutes against better competition — the likes of Rudy Gobert, Jordan Bell and Joel Embiid have defended far more shots at the rim than Adebayo to this point of the season — but it’s clear he has the tools to anchor a defense as a full-time center.

It helps that Adebayo has also held his own against several All-Star big men this season. He was directly involved in five of Dwight Howard’s season-high nine turnovers in their Dec. 1 matchup, and he helped limit Anthony Davis to 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting three weeks later (albeit in a game the Heat lost by 15 points).

Adebayo proved that he has the strength to keep up with those players in one-on-one situations, as well as the length and athleticism to make them uncomfortable around the basket.

The Bruins have scored 20 goals during their winning streak but clearly missed McAvoy, who went down on the first shift on Saturday night’s win over Montreal, on Tuesday.

Boston trails the Tampa Bay Lightning by six points for the Atlantic (and NHL) lead but has three games in hand and have three games remaining with Tampa Bay.

Blake Griffin and the Clippers agreed to a five-year, $173 million deal last summer, keeping the star forward in LA and allowing the team to stave off a rebuild. The Clippers’ presentation during the 2017 free agency period made it clear: Griffin should be a Clipper for life.

The Clippers held their free agent meeting with Griffin at Staples. They lowered the lights in the arena and raised his jersey to the rafters as a choir sang. The PA announcer said: “Tonight, we’re honoring a lifelong Clipper.”

In an interview with ESPN’s E:60, which will air March 11, Thomas said the team went into panic mode because of how poorly they were performing.

In those 15 games Thomas was with the Cavs, the team went 7-8. Thomas also struggled on the court, averaging 14.7 points per game. He averaged a career-high 28.9 ppg last season in Boston

Despite the abrupt end to his tenure in Cleveland, Thomas says he doesn’t hold a grudge against the Cavaliers and is looking forward to continuing his career in Los Angeles.

I’ve been in this situation before when I got traded to Boston, Thomas said, a team right outside the playoffs, a team that was young, really didn’t know how to win. And I just brought a different swagger to that organization. And we took it and ran with it.

Decreases in the production of Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson have led to their contracts earning the distinction of being undesirable. Shumpert is owed roughly $11 million next season (assuming he opts in), while Smith and Thompson are under contract until 2020; Smith and Thompson are both set to earn over $30 million each in the final two seasons of their contracts. While the money would match if these players were included in a deal for Jordan, there would be a slight imbalance in returns.

If the Clippers’ trades of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul serve as any indicator, a pairing of undesirable contracts and a late first-round pick should not be enough for the Cavs to land a player of Jordan’s caliber. Cleveland would likely have to part ways with Brooklyn’s draft pick in addition to a young player with upside like Cedi Osman.

With LeBron James’ free agency looming, Cleveland’s front office is under immense pressure to make moves to improve the Cavs’ roster in a span of four days. Do not count Cleveland out, though, as the franchise has a recent history of making some surprisingly impressive late season acquisitions.

Looking at multiple numbers can create bias toward the best or worst numbers or fail to consider how the numbers (such as weight and 40 time, bench press and broad jump, etc.) go hand in hand when considering a player’s ability.

Alvin Kamara Mens Jersey The SPARQ scores is a formula the Seahawks created to quantify athleticism using the Combine and other athletic testing metrics. Other NFL teams have either adopted this formula or tweaked it to something they feel is just as representative. It’s important to consider these composite scores to prevent bias in considering testing numbers.

Rather than splurging for Cousins, the Broncos’ best move would be signing a cheaper, shorter-term veteran and drafting another QB, as well, to hit reset on their options. The Vikings’ Case Keenum could work as an acceptable consolation, given he started his career in the West Coast offense under former Broncos coach Gary Kubiak in Houston. An even wiser move might be waiting for the Bills to release Tyrod Taylor.

I think the deal that sent Ilya Kovalchuk from the Atlanta Thrashers to the New Jersey Devils in 2010 might also give us something to think about in this scenario. Kovalchuk was in his age 26 season on an expiring contract when he was traded. Karlsson is 27, but having that extra year of team control only increases his value, so it’s definitely not a straight comp, but it gets us in the ballpark. Kovalchuk, Anssi Salmela and a second-round pick that became now-Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Jon Merrill went to New Jersey.

The Thrashers got an established defenseman in Johnny Oduya; a reasonably solid young depth player who didn’t end up taking the next step, in Niclas Bergfors; and a prospect who didn’t end up panning out, in Patrice Cormier. The best part of the trade, however, is that Atlanta got a first-round draft pick and a second-round pick that ended up being packaged in the trade that brought Dustin Byfuglien to the organization — where he became a star for the Thrashers and then the Winnipeg Jets.

He looked good swinging, but he felt a little something, Boone said. So like a lot of little nagging injuries like that, that’s something we’re not going to mess with. … Hopefully by missing some [time] here a little bit now, you can save a longer stint later.

Boone also provided an update on left fielder Clint Frazier, who has been out since last Sunday due to concussion-like symptoms. Frazier hit his head on an outfield wall after leaping for and catching a fly ball. Although Frazier had expressed optimism Thursday about the exercises he could do to test his concussion recovery, Boone said Friday that the workouts didn’t go as well as the team hoped.

One season removed from the gruesome knee injury he sustained at the end of the preseason, Bridgewater’s sample size also poses challenges for the Vikings.

The last episode ended with the fire starting as shots of the family’s happy life together were interspersed as the flames spread.

Because it’s about death. We’re all going to be shown a dozen commercials throughout the game promoting an episode about a beloved father seemingly dying horrifically in a house fire as the rest of his family escapes. Doesn’t that sound like something you want to watch late on a Sunday after you’ve overloaded yourself with wings and chip dip?

The final shot of the hour was the fire licking up the staircase to the second floor as everyone slept peacefully. Ah, yes, definitely a cliffhanger I want to follow up on right after the big game wraps.

Things have finally come to a head over four main issues — the role of Brady’s personal trainer and business partner, Alex Guerrero; the succession plan at quarterback; Belichick’s coaching style; and irreconcilable differences over who’s responsible for the team’s unprecedented success over the years.

Brady’s insistence in recent years that he’ll play into his 40s stems from his relationship with Guerrero, his various training and lifestyle methods, and, as our own Matt Ufford called it, the “pseudoscientific grift” that Brady and Guerrero have built into a lifestyle business.

The faith Brady espouses in his program and its impact on his career has led to other players feeling pressured to turn to Guerrero and the TB12 method. For some it’s worked fine. Others describe it “like a cult.”

“They’re going to do a very in-depth investigation,” Carlisle said. “They’re going to talk to everybody in the organization, and they’re going to find out the how, the why and the best way to resolve this. An outside party was brought in so there would be no local influence or anything like that. And these people are the best of the best. Their findings are going to go directly to Mark Cuban and [NBA commissioner] Adam Silver, and the Mavericks will abide by whatever recommendations are made.

“I’ll tell you that when it comes to anything involving the Mavericks: Mark Cuban is a believer in extreme ownership, extreme accountability, and he is highly motivated to get this resolved in an expeditious but thorough fashion. No steps will be skipped here.”

Added Carlisle: “Things happen for a reason. Any problem or crisis presents an opportunity, and this is an opportunity for us to get something fixed.”

The New England Patriots coasted into the playoffs and locked up a Super Bowl bid once again, but things might not be so rosy behind the scenes. A report from ESPN’s Seth Wickersham says that tensions between the team’s twin icons, head coach Bill Belichick, and quarterback Tom Brady, have festered to the point that the situation might just be untenable going forward.bears_140
