Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett is excited to be a part of head coach Frank Reich’s offense. But as thrilled as he is to be a part of a Super-Bowl winning offensive coordinator’s system, it sounds like he’s almost as thrilled to be out from under the old playbook.
The offense wasn’t good, and the way Brissett described it, play-calling certainly had something to do with it.
OK, class: The math lesson is over! To sum it up, the numbers show that there聽are reasons to worry that Keenum was a product of the Vikings environment. But don’t take math’s word for it. The Vikings themselves paid an $84 million premium to sign Kirk Cousins instead of keeping Keenum, which speaks to their impression of him as a something other than a championship-caliber quarterback.
It might be that the Broncos need to surround Keenum with Vikings-like talent to get 2017-caliber results. But Sanders is 31 and coming off an injury-marred year. Demaryius Thomas is 30, dropped 10 passes last year and has declined statistically for four straight years. The tight ends, running backs and slot receivers are a bunch of rookies and medical redshirts, and the Broncos have been whiffing in the draft and on project players for years. Their defense did finish 10th聽in the NFL in the聽Football Outsiders rankings last year, but the Pierre-Luc Dubois Authentic Jersey Vikings finished second.
For now, everyone’s happy. The Broncos have the veteran winner and drama-free offseason they were hoping for at quarterback. As long as the bar stays low, the Broncos offense will clear it.

But if the Broncos have convinced themselves they can win a Super Bowl with a merely OK quarterback, they are setting聽themselves up for disappointment鈥攊n both Keenum and themselves.
On Thursday morning’s Get Up, anchor Mike Greenberg made the Witten news official after weeks of speculation and negotiations between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the team’s all-time receptions leader.
It is now official. Jason Witten is retiring from the Dallas Cowboys and coming to work with us, Greenberg said. He will join ESPN as an analyst for ‘Monday Night Football’.
Witten succeeds Jon Gruden, who left ESPN to return to NFL coaching with the Raiders.
As for the running backs, Ballard revealed that Marlon Mack underwent offseason shoulder surgery himself after playing throughout his 2017 rookie campaign with a torn labrum. Mack is still considered the frontrunner to start in a competition that will include Christine Michael (who Ballard said has looked outstanding coming off ACL surgery), Robert Turbin, Josh Ferguson, and two mid-round draft picks in N.C. State’s Nyheim Hines and Mississippi’s Jordan Wilkins.
